Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup rice
- 1 can peeled tomatoes (14 oz)
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 onion
- 6 cloves of garlic
- ¼ head of cabbage
- 1 yellow bell pepper (optional)
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon baharat
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon turmeric
- Salt and olive oil to taste
Directions
- Dice the garlic, onion, and bell pepper into small cubes. Sauté them over high heat with olive oil until softened.
- Add the ground beef and cook until all the liquid evaporates and the meat begins to brown.
- Add the peeled tomatoes, cabbage, and tomato paste. Let it cook until the vegetables soften.
- Using a spoon, mash all the ingredients together until the mixture starts to resemble a purée.
- Add the dry spices, then add the rice and cover with water.
- Keep the heat at medium and cook until the rice is al dente.
Serve with: Pita bread and yogurt.
